The partners of Brown and Bird have great pleasure in announcing that Andrew Duck will become a partner of the firm from the 1st July 2006. Andrew was born in Mackay and has been an accountant with Brown and Bird since 1994. He specialises in tax, audit and consulting. Andrew’s contribution to the management team will provide fresh ideas and youthful energy to a partnership that has always tried to blend youth and experience to provide a balanced, long term approach to our advice and client support.
Brown and Bird also celebrates 40 years of business this year. Brown and Bird started life as AHE Brown by Alan Brown in 1966 in premises situated on the corner of Sydney and Shakespeare Streets. Allan Brown and John Bird have been out of the business for some time however the goodwill and reputation that they created has been carried on by the current partners.
The business has expanded and diversified its service offering. A Brisbane office was opened in 2000 under the leadership of Michael Burgess and financial planning now operates as a separate division under the leadership of James Harris and Mike Browne.
The Mackay office has moved several times and now operates from modern premises on the first floor, 224 Victoria Street beside Meng Tyres.
Brown and Bird has become a well recognised and respected firm throughout Queensland.

Mackay Offices
Mackay has gone through a boom year and the effect of that has been high mobility in staff and difficulty and delays in replacing people as they move. We thank our staff for their support and their understanding and we thank you as well. We are told that the economy in Mackay will continue to boom and this will result in shortages and changes in staffing inevitably. We ask for your understanding as we go through these growing paid in our district.
Brisbane Offices
Here have been changes in our Brisbane office staffing as well in the last year but we now have a good stable hard working crew and if you haven’t yet met all of them call in to see Michael and the Brisbane Team.
Both our offices are always on the look out for new opportunities. We are committed to supporting the business community in helping them grow their businesses in these dynamic times. If you have friends or colleagues in business that you know are looking for a high level of advice we encourage you to contact the partners in either Mackay or Brisbane.
We appreciate your support in 2006. We hope you and your family have a joyous Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. We are taking a break for Christmas so our staff can spend time with their family and friends. We will close at 4.00pm on Friday 22nd December 2006 and will return refreshed and ready to help you on Monday 8th January 2007.
